What Does the Chapter Do?

  • Education: Annual Chapter Scientific Session.  This meeting includes a nationally known keynote speaker, sessions on general cardiology, prevention, interventional, imaging, electrophysiology, sports cardiology, cardio oncology, cardio oncology, critical care cardiology, heart failure, and FIT Jeopardy, FIT Poster Session and the biennial Chapter Research Grant Recipient Presentations.  The chapter meeting meets in Kansas City, St. Louis and Columbia Missouri on a three-year rotation.  The 2024 meeting will be held in conjunction with the Kansas ACC at the Overland Park, KS Convention Center.  The 2025 Meeting will be in St. Louis, MO.

  • Communication: Provide periodic communication to the membership in the areas of science and quality, education, advocacy, membership value.
  • FIT Support: FIT support to participate at:

    • Chapter Annual Update in Cardiovascular Diseases
    • ACC Legislative Conference
    • ACC CV Summit
    • ACC Annual Scientific Session
    • Since 2011, FIT research has been presented and prizes have been awarded at the Annual Update.

  • Governance:
    • The Council has expanded to include representation from around the state.
    • There are now two FIT Council members and two CCA Council members

Science & Quality

  • In 2013, Missouri ACC launched an inaugural Research Grant Program
    • 14 letters of intent were received
    • 9 were invited to submit applications
    • 5 were awarded - $10,000 per award
  • In 2015, Missouri ACC continued its Research Grant Program:
    • 8 letters of intent were received
    • 8 were invited to submit applications
    • 4 were awarded - $10,000 per award
  • In 2017, Missouri ACC continued its Research Grant Program
    • 23 letters of intent were received
    • 9 were invited to submit applications
    • 6 were awarded - $10,000 per award
  • In 2019, Missouri ACC continued its Research Grant Program:
    • 23 letters of intent were received
    • 16 were invited to submit applications
    • 6 were awarded - $10,000 per award
  • In 2021, Missouri ACC continued its Research Grant Program:
    • 13 letters of intent were received
    • 8 were invited to submit applications
    • 6 were awarded - $8,333 per award
  • In 2023, Missouri ACC continues its Research Grant Program:
    • A Call for Letters of Intent was distributed in February.
    • Dr. W. Orr, Washington University School of Medicine/Saint Louis Children’s Hospital. “Improving Access to Pediatric Cardiac Rehabilitation through Telemedicine and Remote Patient Monitoring Technology”.
    • Ms. L. Roelle & Mr. N. Miller, Washington University School of Medicine/Saint Louis Children’s Hospital. “Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction in Teenagers with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices: A Pilot Study”. 
    • Dr. J. Mitchell, Washington University School of Medicine.  “Continuous versus intermittent cARdiac electrical moNitorinG (CARING).”
    • Dr. E. Rabinowitz, Washington University School of Medicine.  “To study the effect of individualized flow mechanics on clinical hemostasis; with anticipation that a greater understanding of blood flow mechanics by use of computational analysis generated from routinely obtained serial imaging (e.g. echocardiogram and axial imaging) may provide a novel approach to individualized hemostatic management at the bedside.”
