Looking Ahead: The Missouri ACC Annual Scientific Meeting 2025
The Missouri Chapter of the American College of Cardiology is gearing up for its highly anticipated Annual Update in Cardiovascular Diseases, a conference designed not only to inform but also to connect and elevate cardiovascular care across the state.
Historically a well-attended event, it is held in Kansas City, St. Louis and Columbia Missouri on a three-year rotation. This year’s meeting is being held on October 11 at the St Charles Convention Center in St Louis. It promises to deliver a dynamic mix of practical case-based learning, expert discussions, and community-driven insights aimed at producing actionable takeaways for clinicians at every career stage.
According to the chair of the planning committee Dr. Mustafa Husaini MD MBA FACC, the overarching mission of this year’s meeting is to ensure that every session leaves attendees with “clear, actionable takeaways and thoughtful improvements to our practice.” In addition to engaging case discussions, the program features important guideline updates and sessions designed to bridge the gap between cutting-edge data and meaningful, real-world application.
Spotlight on Keynote Speakers
Two standout keynote speakers will kick off the event, both bringing unique perspectives. Cathleen Biga MSN MACC, Immediate past President of the American College of Cardiology, is widely recognized as a gifted educator. She is known for her ability to make even the most complex concepts accessible and relevant to practicing clinicians. She will speak on the “Business of Cardiology”, given her trailblazing career in leadership and extensive experience in physician practice management and administration.
Joining her is Dr. Ben Levine MD FACC, an internationally renowned expert in exercise physiology. Dr. Levine consults for organizations as diverse as professional sports leagues and NASA, and his insights have consistently captivated audiences at national and international meetings. Dr. Husaini notes he is a speaker whose “commentary and insights at every meeting I’ve attended have been remarkable,” making his participation a highlight for attendees. He will deliver the keynote address on “Exercise, Longevity, and Cardiac Remodeling Across the Spectrum of Physical Activity”.
Sessions Not to Miss
While every session has been crafted to deliver value, several program elements stand out as “can’t-miss” opportunities:
- Interactive Case Blocks and debates, guideline updates: Designed to spark dialogue and engage participants in practical, real-world clinical decision making. Dr. Husaini hopes the audience will participate actively in these sessions, sparking debate and learning with the presenters and panelists.
- FIT Jeopardy: A crowd favorite, this fast-paced and competitive session blends education with fun, showcasing the knowledge and enthusiasm of fellows-in-training. Winning team represents MO at the national level.
- Employment models in Cardiology: Moderated by MO ACC Governor Dr. Toniya Singh, this session explores the evolving landscape of cardiology practice with perspectives across multiple models.
- Industry Product Theaters (New This Year): Afternoon sessions will provide a deeper dive into select topics, offering attendees unique insights directly from experts.
Building Connections
The meeting also emphasizes the importance of networking and spontaneous interaction. From Exhibitor Networking Breaks to the Fellows-in-Training Poster Session and the Women in Cardiology and Resident Fireside reception, attendees will find multiple opportunities to engage informally, exchange ideas, and foster collaborations across Missouri’s diverse cardiology community.
A Statewide Impact
Beyond the sessions and social events, the meeting holds deeper significance: it serves as a statewide platform to connect academic and community centers, promote representation across diverse institutions, and drive innovation and lifelong learning. The planning committee envisions the conference as a sustainable, multidisciplinary event that supports fellows, early-career clinicians, and experienced practitioners alike.
As Dr. Husaini noted, “We want this meeting to be the premier annual event where Missouri clinicians come for practical learning, connection, and inspiration.”
