Missouri ACC 2025 Annual Update in Cardiovascular Disease - Event Highlights
The 2025 Missouri Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (MO ACC) Annual Update in Cardiovascular Disease, held on October 11, 2025, in St. Louis, brought together cardiology providers, trainees, cardiovascular care team members and representatives from industry across the state for a day of education, collaboration, and camaraderie.
The meeting opened with a warm welcome from Program Chair Dr. Mustafa Husaini and Vice Chair Dr. Jaffer Ansari. This was followed by an insightful “Business of Cardiology” address from Immediate Past President of the ACC, Cathie Biga, MSN, MACC, whose talk provided valuable perspectives on the evolving landscape of cardiovascular practice management which resonated deeply with the attendees.
The keynote lecture by Dr. Ben Levine, “The Effects of Aging and Physical Activity on Cardiovascular Structure and Function,” was truly eye-opening. It blended science, physiology, and clinical relevance in a way that captivated the audience and provided pearls of knowledge that are applicable in the real world.
Morning case-based sessions tackled challenging topics including aortic stenosis, atrial fibrillation in athletes, the thick heart conundrum, and advanced heart failure, all of which stimulated lively discussion and practical takeaways. Faculty and fellows in training representing institutions across the state shared their expertise and approach to common clinical conundrums.
The Fellows-in-Training Jeopardy session over lunch was a crowd favorite once again, many congratulations to the Washington University team for taking home the state title! They will proudly represent Missouri at the National FIT Jeopardy competition. Go team Missouri! WashU team won the national FIT jeopardy at ACC25 and all eyes will be on them as they seek to defend their title at ACC26.
The poster session reflecting the diversity of cardiovascular pathology seen throughout the state and showcased some important research being conducted. Congratulations to all the poster presenters and award winners for their outstanding contributions. The poster session is a great opportunity for cardiology curious medical students and residents to present their work and engage with faculty.
Afternoon specialty sessions covered imaging, critical care cardiology, guideline updates, and employment models; each interactive, case-based, and met with enthusiastic participation from attendees. The discussions were dynamic and practical, reinforcing why this annual event remains a highlight for the cardiovascular community in the state.
The day ended with the Women In Cardiology (WIC) reception, which was open to all, providing the attendees an opportunity to share their experiences and make connections. In today’s fast paced life with its endless zoom meetings, an in person event like this felt like a breath of fresh air.
A heartfelt thank-you to all the speakers, moderators, and participants who made this year’s meeting a success. The MO ACC continues to serve as the professional home for all cardiology providers and cardiovascular team members across Missouri, fostering collaboration, education, and advocacy.
